Homecoming Week 2022 in A-State is themed “Feeling 22”


JONESBORO — With the theme of Feeling 22, Arkansas State University’s 2022 Homecoming Week begins Monday and will continue with a series of special activities, including a parade celebrating the fall semester tradition.

Homecoming week culminates on Saturday, October 1, when the Red Wolves take on the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks in a nationally televised game on ESPN+. Kick-off is at 6pm at Centennial Bank Stadium.

Students can vote online for the Homecoming Court on Friday, September 23 from 9am to 9pm, with the 10 members of the court being introduced on Monday, September 26. The homecoming king and queen will be announced during the pre-game presentation.

“For our A-State alumni, current students, faculty and staff, Homecoming is more than just a week of events,” commented Keyerra Dotson of West Memphis, Student Activities Board representative. “It’s an annual tradition of bringing us all together to show our red wolf spirit while creating new memories that will last a lifetime. We hope everyone enjoys the events we have planned and we can’t wait to see everyone there.”

A-State Alumni Association and University Officials Will Be the Distinguished Alumni of 2022 – Dr. Jonesboro’s Gilbert Fowler, Jonesboro’s Chad Niell and the late Herman Strickland Jr. of Memphis — acknowledge at halftime of the game. The 39th annual Distinguished Alumni recognition, including an awards dinner the night before, is the latest in a program that began in 1984.

During Homecoming weekend, special alumni activities include the 50th Anniversary Reunion for the Graduating Class of 1972 on Friday, the Rugby Club Alumni Activities on Saturday and the Alumni Band Reunion on Saturday afternoon. Honors College will host a grand opening of the Honors Oasis outdoor venue on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe, a member of the A-State Class of 1968, will return to campus to deliver the annual Corinne Sternheimer Greenfield Lecture on Friday, September 30 at 2 p.m. at the Fowler Center Drama Theater .

The campus competitions include a student organization window painting competition at the Reng Student Union, a campus office decoration competition, and a dorm and Greek townhouse decoration competition.

Numerous campus organizations will host tailgates and social activities. Led by the Student Activities Board (SAB), A-State Alumni Association and other university organizations, highlights of the week include:

– Monday 26 September: The “Music Legends Lip Sync” competition starts at 7:00 p.m. in the Centennial Hall of the Reng Student Union. The members of the Homecoming Court will be announced.

– Tuesday 27 September: Roller Rave: We Rock, You Roll begins at 8:00 p.m. at the Red WOLF Center and attendees will enjoy glow-in-the-dark roller skating, Just Dance, Guitar Hero, arcade games and DJ King Vick.

— Wednesday 28 September: “Wild West Wednesday” runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Heritage Plaza Lawn, east side of the Reng Student Union. While enjoying games and cotton candy, the students will also hold a canning drive to benefit the A-State Food Pantry.

– Thursday 29 September: Voting for Homecoming King and Queen is open online from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Results will be announced during the pre-game court introduction.

– Thursday 29 September: The annual Homecoming Parade, themed “Music Shuffle,” begins at 5:00 p.m. and proceeds from the Pack Place to the Studentenwerk. Spectators are allowed to line Aggie Road. This is followed by movie night at Centennial Bank Stadium with a screening of “Elvis” from 8 p.m

– Friday 30 September: The excitement continues to mount with “Howlapalooza” and the traditional “yell like hell” bonfire, which will be held at 7:00 p.m. near the corner of Honors Ave. and University Loop East begins.

— Saturday, October 1st: The A-State Alumni Band Reunion will be held at the Fine Arts Center from 12pm to 6pm, with a rehearsal at 1pm and a “Sound Town” tailgate at 2pm in the S-11B parking lot.

— Saturday, October 1st: The A-State Alumni Association will host a pre-game tailgate from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Cooper Alumni Center.

— Saturday, October 1st: After rounding up Centennial Bank Stadium, kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m
